Adoption Assistance

This workshop is for all families that receive an adoption subsidy for their child. We will look at what the federal regulations and state policies says regarding;

  • What child is eligible to receive adoption assistance
  • What is non-recurring expenses
  • How to negotiate an adoption subsidy agreement
  • How to renegotiate an adoption agreement after an adoption
  • Can your child’s adoption agreement be automatically adjusted
  • What happened if the adoptive parent(s) dies
  • Can your child’s subsidy be stopped

We will cover the above topics and much, much more. The goal of this workshop is to not only give you tools. We expect you to share this information. By doing so, we can all Empower the Village.

Finding Support from Fostering to Adopting

Where and how to find the support you need through the journey of fostering to adoption. How to handle challenging situations with teens, school related issues, police dealings, probation matters and keeping the family in tack through it all. Also what can you do for you to keep yourself strong.

I’ve Adopted. Now What?

Most families experience difficulties after finalization but don’t know if help is available for them or where to turn. Learn that calling for SWAN Post-permanency services is more of a “when” than an “if.” Join us for this workshop to learn about SWAN’s Post-permanency services that are available for families who have adopted, are providing Permanent Legal Custodianship, or formal kinship. Learn about what services offered to families and a general framework of what to expect.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Families will learn that there are Post-permanency service available to them.
  2. Helpline information will be given to families (via fact sheet).
  3. Units of service will be explained to families.

A resource parent role can be complicated and supported by different means. Support is essential in the role, but sometimes locating it can be difficult. This class will explore the different types of support and access to support.

Closing Session – SWAN: Who We Are & How We Support You

During this session, you will be introduced to the array of services offered through the Statewide Adoption and Permanency Network (SWAN). Join SWAN workers and experienced foster/adoptive parents in learning about the child and family services available to support your family in their foster care journey. Through activities and discussion, learn how to navigate and utilize the child services: Child Profile, Child Preparation, and Child Specific Recruitment. These services allow foster parents an opportunity to create shared experiences with the youth in their home while also building deeper connections during their placement with you. Additionally, we will share an overview of the family services (Family Profile, Family Matching, Placement, and Finalization) as well as the Swan Helpline, and Post Permanency services available to those seeking permanency through foster care; SWAN services are available for each step in your foster care journey.
